Teeth Whitening
Our first teeth are vibrant and white, however, over time as we age people find that they start to lose their original colour and can sometimes become stained.
There are various factors that contribute to stains and discolouring of our teeth.
- Drinking Tea, coffee
- Smoking
- Red wine and blackcurrant drinks.
- Calculus or tartar.
- Taking certain medications (antibiotics).
- Tooth decay or fillings.
- If the nerves and blood vessels inside the tooth are damaged.
- As a result of aging process.
There are three levels of discoloring or stains
- Surface level – these stains can be removed through a good whitening toothpaste or polish by our hygenist.
- Deep rooted stains – these stains build up over time as we eat, drink or smoke. Normal dental polish will not be able to remove stains and whiten your teeth. You will need to have professional teeth whitening to remove these stains. The dentist will help you with the most suitable teeth whitening treatment.
- Inherited stains – These are genetic so sometimes even professional teeth whitening treatments may not be effective for this condition. Cosmetic bonding or veneers may be the ideal cosmetic dentistry solution for this dental problem.
